This position is located in the Office of the Attorney General Public Safety Division, Neighborhood & Victim Services Section. Performs legal research, including search of statutes, regulations, legislative history, case law and other legal authorities on points of law. Assist with handling litigation involving abating dangerous drug nuisances, illegal houses of prostitution, slumlords, vacant properties, noise complaints lead-based paint hazards, and other nuisance property issues. Reviews cases files, studies of pleadings, testimony, exhibits, hearing records and briefs pertinent to assignments. Advises Administrative law judges or other appropriate legal authority on the possible dispositions of matters resulting from reviews.  Assist with investigating, interviewing witnesses, assessing legal strategies, working with attorneys to prepare and respond to discovery, legal research, drafting documents, including legal pleadings and memoranda in both civil and criminal cases. Assist with drafting administrative warrants or affidavits on behalf of District agencies, primarily the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs/Emergency Management Services, to provide potentially dangerous properties that pose a health or safety hazard to the public. Manage databases, assign cases, monthly distribute of information to the Metropolitan Police Department, conducts audits and prepare memos for priority and ongoing initiatives.  Reviews contents of reports and procedural or policy papers to identify potential problems and to assure consistency with agency policy papers to identify potential problems and to assure consistency with agency policy.  Identifies, defines and analyzes operational problems and poses options and alternatives t existing procedures.  Keeps abreast of current legal developments including recent decisions issued by appeals boards, D.C. Courts of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court.
