DC AG Reaches Settlement with AOL Regarding Customer Cancellation Requests (Cont.)
AOL recently announced that it is giving its Internet access customers the option of converting to free e-mail accounts. The terms of today's agreement are intended to reduce the potential for consumer confusion as this transition proceeds.
The settlement requires AOL to make payments to the settling states, including $165,000 for the District of Columbia's Consumer Protection Fund.
Also participating in today's settlement are the states of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia Wisconsin, and Wyoming, the Commonwealths of Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
