Attorney General Racine Establishes Labor Advisory Committee to Keep Abreast of Issues Important to District’s Workforce

Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that he has established and hosted the initial quarterly meeting of the Attorney General’s Labor Advisory Committee. Establishing such a committee to keep the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) apprised of matters important to labor groups was a recommendation from Attorney General Racine’s Transition Team.

“The labor community plays a vital role in addressing the needs of working people and families, and it’s important for our team to hear regularly from them on real bread-and-butter issues that matter to tens of thousands of people in the District,” Attorney General Racine said. “There are a myriad of laws on the books that seek to protect workers. OAG is committed to utilizing its resources to enforce these laws.”

The Attorney General met with nearly a dozen labor leaders representing various sectors of the District’s workforce. Joslyn Williams, President of the Washington Metropolitan Council of the AFL-CIO, facilitated the discussion. Attorney General Racine updated labor leaders on OAG’s role and jurisdiction, and labor leaders had the opportunity to share their unique concerns with the Attorney General.

The Attorney General is currently in the process of convening a similar advisory panel designed to foster regular dialogue with the District’s business community.
