Attorney General Racine to Report for Jury Duty

Attorney General Racine to Report for Jury Duty

Will Report for D.C. Superior Court Petit Jury Duty Thursday, January 29; Encourages District Residents to Do Their Civic Duty When Called Because Jury System is Crucial to Justice

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine will report to D.C. Superior Court tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. for petit jury service. He encouraged all District residents to do their civic duty when summoned for jury duty because our system of justice depends on diverse and committed juries to hear cases, weigh evidence carefully, and deliver consensus verdicts that mete out justice.

"For hundreds of years, the American legal system and its antecedent, the British system of common law, have depended on juries to ensure that justice is delivered in as fair and impartial a manner as possible," Attorney General Racine said. "Although we Americans often like to complain and joke about jury duty, a system without conscientious, intelligent people sitting on juries would be far worse than any inconvenience jury service may impose on the average person."

Prior to reporting for jury duty, Attorney General Racine will hold a brief media availability in front of D.C. Superior Court’s H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse to discuss the importance of jury service.
