Attorney General Schwalb Secures Guilty Plea in Connection with Financial Exploitation of Disabled DC Senior

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that Yolanda Forbe, 54, formerly of Fredericksburg, VA, pleaded guilty to one felony count of Financial Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult or Elderly Person and one misdemeanor count of Credit Card Fraud, based on her stealing $6,899 from an elderly Southeast DC resident.

Attorney General Schwalb Secures $1 Million from Political Texting Firm for Failure to Pay DC Sales Tax

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that Toskr, Inc. (doing business as GetThru), a peer-to-peer text messaging vendor that works with political and nonprofit clients, will pay $1 million to resolve allegations that the company failed to collect and pay DC sales tax for a decade. Under the terms of the settlement with the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), GetThru will also be required to collect and pay sales taxes on data processing services it sells to clients in the District.

Attorney General Schwalb Secures $1.255 Million Judgment Against Affordable Housing Nonprofit Director Who Misused Funds

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) won a $1.255 million judgment against Kenneth Brewer, Sr., the former executive director of the nonprofit H Street Community Development Corporation (HSCDC), for violating DC law and his duty as a nonprofit officer by misusing nonprofit funds. OAG sued Brewer in 2025, alleging that for years he secretly diverted HSCDC funds to pay himself increasingly larger annual bonuses.

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that DC developer Steven Sushner will pay $400,000 to fund repairs to a Ward 4 condo building that was improperly constructed and sways in the wind due to insufficient structural supports.
