The Office of Consumer Protection works on behalf of consumers to address deceptive, unfair, and illegal practices by businesses and landlords. It investigates potential violations of DC consumer protection laws and, when appropriate, files civil enforcement actions. OAG also offers a free, voluntary Consumer & Tenant Response program that handles consumer and tenant complaints when the consumer is a DC resident, when the business is located or headquartered in the District, or when the tenant rents in the District. Our team will contact the business or landlord on behalf of the consumer/tenant and work to resolve the dispute, outside of court.

If you are experiencing an issue with a business or landlord, please contact our Consumer and Tenant Response team at 202-442-9828, consumer.protection@dc.gov, or submit a complaint at oag.dc.gov/complaint.
