The Housing and Community Justice Section (HCJ) of PSD is divided into two units which fulfill separate and distinct roles. These units are:
In abating nuisances, HCJ combines available civil or criminal remedies with creative problem solving in working with the community, police departments, and both governmental and nongovernmental stakeholders to address the quality of life in communities throughout the District of Columbia. Nuisance Abatement prosecutors work with these groups to eradicate nuisance properties that create blight and hazardous safety conditions for communities.
The Victim Witness Assistance Unit (VWAU) of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia is comprised of social service professionals dedicated to assisting and supporting individuals who are victims and witnesses to serious and violent crimes by juvenile offenders and some adult offenders. We are committed to assisting victims and advocating for them by ensuring that their rights are protected throughout the entire legal process. The VWAU recognizes that the stressors created from victimization can become overwhelming. Our goal is to make the process less difficult.
