Attorney General Racine Releases Transition Budget Report Showing Return to District of More than Half of Budgeted Funds

Team Relied on Pro Bono Assistance Help to Keep Expenditures at a Minimum

Washington, DC – As required by law, on Tuesday Attorney General Karl A. Racine transmitted to the Council of the District of Columbia the Attorney General-Elect Transition Expenditure Report, which showed that his Transition Team spent only $71,864.63 of the $150,000 allocated for the transition.

“I want to thank my Transition Team Co-Chairs, Natalie Ludaway and Pauline Schneider, as well as Kim Whatley, who served as Transition Team Director, for their fantastic work in leading a successful transition, and in doing it with strong fiscal discipline – including foregoing any compensation for themselves,” Attorney General Racine said. “The work of the entire transition staff, with the key addition of significant pro bono assistance from individuals who love this city, meant that we were able to return more than $78,000 to the District’s treasury – all while ensuring that the Office of the Attorney General was able to move forward into a new way of serving our residents.”

Attorney General Racine continued, “I also want to thank the entire Transition Team staff and the numerous Office of the Attorney General lawyers and staff who assisted with the transition for their hard work, which has allowed the Office of the Attorney General to hit the ground running. We are moving forward with implementing four major initiatives: better protecting our consumers and reaching out to our community, stronger enforcement of laws designed to preserve affordable housing, reforming our juvenile-justice system and strengthening public safety, and creating a fairer and more transparent system of government contracting.”
