Attorney General Racine Thanks Council for FY 2018 Budget Expanding Support for Public Safety, Workers, Environment

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine thanked the Council of the District of Columbia for unanimously passing a Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18) Budget for the District that expands the ability of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to protect public safety, the environment, consumers, and workers in the District.

Attorney General Racine and Counterparts Take Legal Action to Secure Reduction of Harmful Air Pollution

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine has joined a group of 14 state attorneys general and the City of Chicago in taking legal action to secure reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases and other harmful air pollutants. The coalition filed a motion to intervene in Clean Air Council v. Pruitt, a lawsuit brought by environmental organizations after U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt halted regulation of air pollution leaks at new oil and gas facilities.

Attorney General Racine Intervenes in Lawsuit to Defend Federal Energy Efficiency Standards for Light Bulbs

April 19, 2017

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that he had joined California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, along with five other state attorneys general and a California state agency, in a motion to intervene in a lawsuit to defend federal light bulb regulations that protect the environment. In March, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) challenging energy efficiency regulations for light bulbs.

Racine today joined attorneys general from across the nation to announce an unprecedented coalition of 17 top law enforcement officials to protect and expand progress the nation has made in combatting climate change. Former Vice President and leading climate activist Al Gore joined several attorneys general in New York City today to announce the multi-state coordination efforts.

District Joins 28 States Investigating Volkswagen

Racine today announced that the District has joined at least 28 other states to in a joint consumer protection investigation into Volkswagen, following disclosures that the German automobile company’s Volkswagen and Audi diesel cars include software that circumvents Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions testing.

The coalition, which was led by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and includes the attorneys general of New York, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington State, and the District of Columbia, as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection, issued the following joint statement:

District Joins 18-State Coalition to Defend National Auto Emission Standards

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today joined an 18-state coalition in suing the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its attempt to abandon greenhouse-gas-emission standards currently in place for model year 2022-2025 vehicles. The standards save drivers money at the pump, reduce oil consumption, and curb greenhouse gases.

Attorney General Joins Colleagues from Six States in Opposing Executive Order Weakening Clean Water Rule

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine joined six state attorneys general in opposing an executive order issued today, which President Trump described as paving the way to eliminating the Clean Water Rule (also known as the Waters of the United States Rule, or WOTUS).

The coalition, which was led by New York and includes the attorneys general of the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Oregon, Vermont and Washington, issued the following statement:

Court Rules New Energy Efficiency Standards Shelved by Trump Administration Must Go into Effect

February 20, 2018

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine and a coalition of 12 other attorneys general have secured a federal court ruling requiring new national energy efficiency standards go into effect. The coalition of attorneys general sued the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) last June for unlawfully refusing to implement the standards.
