Today, Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb will testify in support of the Child Support Improvement Amendment Act of 2026, legislation the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) introduced to reform the District’s child support system and increase financial support for DC kids and families.

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today released the Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) 2025 Impact Report, highlighting OAG’s efforts to protect the District and its residents over the last year, including securing $906.8 million in savings and benefits for DC – a 477% return on investment.

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today introduced the Child Support Improvement Amendment Act of 2026 to reform the District’s child support system by ensuring that every dollar of child support collected from non-custodial parents gets to the children and families it is intended to help.

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb, alongside Councilmembers Matt Frumin (Ward 3) and Brooke Pinto (Ward 2), today announced that beginning October 1, 2025, families receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) will see an increase in child support passthrough payments from $150 to $200 per month. This change, enacted through the Child Support Reform Amendment Act of 2025, ensures more money collected from noncustodial parents goes directly into the hands of District families. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG), through its Child Support Services Division, works with parents and guardians of children who are seeking financial support from non-custodial parents to ensure timely and consistent child support payments.
