Child Support Amnesty: Helping Parents Get Back on Track to Support Their Kids
To recognize national Child Support Awareness Month in August, this month our office is rolling out a few special initiatives designed to give parents the tools they need to support their children:
Child Support Amnesty
Aug. 1 – Aug. 31
Visit our offices at 441 4th Street NW, Suite 550 North, from 8:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
For the whole month of August, parents who have fallen behind on their child-support payments can take advantage of OAG’s amnesty program to help them get back on track. If non-custodial parents make good-faith efforts to pay outstanding child support debt during this period, they may be eligible for certain benefits, including child support compliance letters that could help quash an arrest warrant or return a revoked license related to failure to pay. Participants are also eligible for dollar-for-dollar matching grants applied to any debt owed to the District under the TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) program.
Free Paternity Testing
Aug. 1 – Aug. 31
Visit our offices at 441 4th Street NW, Suite 550 North from 8:15 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Establishing paternity is important for both children and fathers, but genetic testing can be expensive. Throughout August, OAG is offering FREE genetic testing to any District resident who has not established paternity for their child. And not only is this service free, but participants will also receive a $25 gift card!
Back-to-School Supplies Giveaway
Aug. 27 – Aug. 31
Visit our offices located at 441 4th Street NW, Suite 550 North, from 8:45 a.m – 3:45 p.m.
Start the school year off right! Backpacks with school supplies will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis from August 27 through August 31 for families with an active child support case and school-aged children (limit two backpacks per family).
