District residents should be on the lookout for scammers impersonating DC Water technicians. These persons are calling consumers and telling them that DC Water staff will be coming to their homes to "check on the quality of their water." This is a scam and no such calls are being made by DC Water. 

If you receive a call from a person claiming to be from DC Water asking to visit your home & check the quality of the water, please do not share any personal information or allow them access to your home.

4 Tips to Protect Yourself from DC Water Scam

  1. Ask for ID. Any DC Water employee should have a DC Water and Sewer Authority photo identification card.   2. Refuse to give any financial information over the phone if someone calls you saying they are from DC Water. DC Water does accept payments over the phone and the internet, but only share payment information when you initiate the transaction.
  3. Report any suspicious activity. If you get a call or email asking for financial information, hang up and report it to DC Water at (202) 354-3600. If someone claiming to be from DC Water shows up at your door asking for access, do not allow them in and report it to DC Water at (202) 354-3600.
  4. Check to see if legitimate DC Water employees are in your neighborhood. DC Water does have a meter replacement project underway and you can call (202) 612-3473 to see if the project team is in your neighborhood.
