CONSUMER ALERT: Identity Theft Protection Following Marriott Data Breach
Earlier today, Marriott announced a data breach affecting approximately 500 million hotel guests who made reservations at hotels owned by Starwood around the world. Starwood is a subsidiary of Marriott and owns hotel brands including W Hotels, St. Regis, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, Westin Hotels & Resorts, Element Hotels, Aloft Hotels, The Luxury Collection, Tribute Portfolio, Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts, Four Points by Sheraton and Design Hotels. Marriott is reporting that detailed personal information may have been accessed as part of the breach, including passport numbers, dates of birth, email addresses, phone numbers, and credit card information.
OAG is still gathering information about this latest data breach, including how many District residents were affected and the types of information that was stolen.
Marriot has set up a dedicated website (info.starwoodhotels.com) and call center (877-273-9481) to answer questions you may have about this incident.
