Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today congratulated Shana Frost Matini, a longtime trial attorney at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), on her new appointment as a Magistrate Judge on the District of Columbia Superior Court.
Most recently, Ms. Frost Matini served as Acting Chief of Section III in OAG’s Civil Litigation Division. In that position, she oversaw 10 Assistant Attorneys General who defended the District and its agencies in civil rights, employment and tort cases filed in the Superior Court and in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Prior to that, Ms. Frost Matini served as an Assistant Attorney General in OAG’s Civil Litigation Division, where she defended the District in some of the most significant cases handled by that Division – including wrongful-imprisonment cases.
While at OAG, she also served as the President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 1403, the labor union representing non-supervisory attorneys in the District government.
“Ms. Frost Matini has been a strong legal advocate for the District. She has also been a strong labor advocate for the District government’s attorneys,” Attorney General Racine said.“While we will miss her immensely at OAG, I have no doubt that she will continue her devotion to fairness and justice in her new role as a Magistrate Judge, and I congratulate her on this appointment.”
Ms. Frost Matini holds a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from The George Washington University and a J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude. Following law school, she served as law clerk to the Honorable Richard A. Levie of DC Superior Court.
