AG Racine Sends Letter To Senate Judiciary Members Expressing Support for Supreme Court Nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

WASHINGTON, D.C.Attorney General Karl A. Racine today sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-IA) urging the members of the Committee on the Judiciary to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court without delay.

The letter details Judge Jackson’s extensive track record as an impartial arbiter with exceptional judicial ability.

“Attorneys from my office have appeared before Judge Jackson in more than 30 cases, including three trials. Regardless of the legal issue, Judge Jackson proved to be an impartial arbiter of the law,” said AG Racine. “We have prevailed and lost before Judge Jackson–but in every instance, we and the opposing side were given every opportunity to present facts, law, and argument. There are myriad reasons to confirm Judge Jackson to the Supreme Court, of which her experience on a trial court is only one. The Senate should confirm her without delay.”

Since the DC Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is charged with carrying out the District’s legal business, OAG attorneys frequently appear in federal court to defend local government interests and protect taxpayer dollars. Over the last eight years, OAG’s lawyers have witnessed Judge Jackson in action in a way few other lawyers have. During her time on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, OAG litigated numerous cases before Judge Jackson involving a range of First and Fourth Amendment claims, statutory claims under Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the application of local laws like the District’s Whistleblower Protection Act.
