WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine issued the following statement today in response to the Trump administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), a program that allows so-called “Dreamers” (Young undocumented immigrants eligible for DACA) to stay in the United States. In July, Attorney General Racine joined counterparts from 19 states in sending a letter to President Trump urging him to maintain and defend DACA.

“The legal status of nearly 800 ‘Dreamers’ in the District is in jeopardy after President Trump’s decision to end DACA. These young people came to the United States through no fault of their own. They attend our schools, universities, and colleges; they work hard and make invaluable contributions in their workplaces and in our community. I will continue to stand up for these young people and fight to keep them safe in the only place they’ve ever known as home.”
