WASHINGTON, D.C. – District of Columbia Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced the introduction of legislation to strengthen protections for DC consumers against unfair and abusive debt collection practices.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Michelle Suggs (50 years old) of Upper Marlboro, MD, a Central Intelligence Agency employee, was arrested yesterday after being charged in a 17-count Superior Court indictment with perjury, obstruction of justice, felony tax evasion, first degree fraud and various other tax offenses, Interim D.C. Attorney General Eugene A. Adams and Chief Financial Officer Jeffrey S. DeWitt announced today.

WASHINGTON, D.C – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) won four lawsuits brought to defend District residents from discrimination. As a result of these lawsuits, the defendants must pay civil penalties and fees to the District totaling over $360,000, change their policies to expand access to affordable housing, and ensure they are trained in fair housing rules.

But the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia (OAG) has learned that at least one student loan servicer has provided inaccurate information about the Department of Education’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program to thousands of DC residents.

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Office of Consumer Protection has entered a settlement with Collect Pros, LLC, a California-based debt collection company, and Michael Ross, the company’s owner and manager. The settlement requires Collect Pros and Ross to forgive $219,297.41 in uncollected consumer debt held by District residents, in addition to other provisions.

Racine welcomed a Superior Court ruling today that allows supporters of a $15 minimum-wage initiative to move forward with ensuring the measure goes before voters. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) intervened in the caseafter an earlier ruling against the District’s Board of Elections.
