WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that his office has reached a settlement with Briggs Chaney Wireless, Inc., a company that operated two MetroPCS cell phone stores in the District, to resolve claims that the company failed to pay workers the District’s minimum wage for nearly a year. This settlement requires Briggs Chaney to pay over $15,000 in back wages and restitution to five former employees and make a $5,000 payment to the District.

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine has launched a pilot program to resolve lawsuits against the District government through an informal mediation process. Under the program, any individual who has filed a lawsuit against the District of Columbia seeking $10,000 or less for property damage or personal injury may bring the claim before a neutral mediator.

Racine today announced that Washington Hebrew Congregation (WHC), a synagogue that also runs a childcare center, will pay $950,000 to affected families and the District for violating DC laws designed to protect children and creating an environment that put children at risk for abuse. 

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced a new lawsuit against Dynamic Contracting, Inc., a construction company that specializes in drywall installation, two of Dynamic’s general contractors, and four of Dynamic’s labor subcontractors for engaging in a scheme to reduce their costs through the systemic and widespread misclassification of workers on construction projects throughout the District.  

This week, the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, along with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 46 agencies from 38 states, shut down the operators of a massive and long-running charity fundraising phone scam.
