WASHINGTON, DC – Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today released the below statement ahead of the United States House Committee on Oversight and Accountability’s hearing on the disapproval resolution regarding the District’s Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act:

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today applauded the Senate’s passage of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016, a bill that would provide states with the necessary tools to more effectively confront the growing challenge of heroin and opioid abuse and addiction. Attorney General Racine echoed his previous support of this bill, along with 37 other state attorneys general, and urged passage of the House companion bill.

WASHINGTON, DC – Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb announced today a court-approved settlement agreement, secured alongside the Equal Rights Center (ERC), with Adams Investment Group LLC (Adams View), Adams-Cathedral, LLC, Barkan Management Company, Inc., Broadhouse Management Group, LLC, and Entrata, Inc. that resolves allegations that these owners, managers, and third-party leasing companies engaged in a pattern of source-of-income discrimination against prospective tenants who were housing voucher holders.

Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today thanked Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton for introducing the District of Columbia Local Prosecutor Establishment Act of 2015 – versions of which she has introduced in previous sessions of Congress. The legislation would establish a local prosecutor’s office, designated under local law to prosecute all local crimes in the District. All adult felonies and most adult misdemeanor offenses are currently handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District.
 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced that the federal court of appeals in D.C. dismissed an appeal of a decision striking down the Trump Administration’s attempt to revoke food assistance for approximately 700,000 Americans. In January 2020, AG Racine and New York Attorney General Letitia James co-led a multistate coalition in suing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to challenge a new rule that would have severely limited states’ flexibility to provide food assistance to individuals struggling to find work.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Attorney General Karl A. Racine today filed a lawsuit against the District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) for endangering over 5,000 tenants at 10 public housing properties—as well as the surrounding communities in Wards 1, 5, 6, and 7—by failing to confront drug- and firearm-related nuisances at the properties. DCHA is an independent District agency that provides housing for low- and moderate-income residents.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced that the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) successfully resolved two environmental enforcement actions—winning a judgment in a water pollution lawsuit and reaching a settlement in a lead paint investigation—and filed a new lawsuit against a developer that polluted District waters.
