WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine, as part of a coalition of six state attorneys General, has filed a motion to intervene in a suit to force the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to effectively ban a toxic pesticide. Chlorpyrifos, which is commonly used on foods that infants, young children, and pregnant women consume, has been shown to negatively affect proper development and functioning of the central nervous system and brain.

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that the Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) Office of Consumer Protection has resolved its lawsuit against debt collector Fair Collections & Outsourcing (FCO). Under the agreement, FCO is required to pay full restitution to consumers from whom it unlawfully collected court costs and attorney’s fees and is prohibited from further violations of the District’s laws on debt collection and consumer protection.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today led a coalition of 18 attorneys general urging the Supreme Court to preserve critical legal tools to fight discrimination against Americans with disabilities. 
 

Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today said that his office was reviewing a decision by D.C. Superior Court Judge Neal Kravitz awarding $9.15 million dollars to a plaintiff, Kirk Odom, who was wrongfully imprisoned for more than 22 years. The judgment was entered against the District government under the Unjust Imprisonment Act, a law permitting wrongfully-convicted and imprisoned plaintiffs to collect damages from the District without having to prove fault – even when the plaintiff was tried by federal prosecutors.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine is calling on District residents to observe Emancipation Day this year both by commemorating President Lincoln’s act of freeing the District’s enslaved residents and by continuing to strive for equality and fairness for all District residents.
