WASHINGTON – With this year’s April 17 deadline looming for filing District and federal income tax returns, Attorney General Karl A. Racine today cautioned District residents to be on the lookout for fraudulent schemes common during tax season. He also warned taxpayers that recent data breaches affecting tens of millions of consumers mean that fraudsters and their schemes have evolved – and consumers should be on the lookout.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today filed a lawsuit against Grubhub Holdings, Inc. and Grubhub, Inc. (Grubhub), a food delivery company, for charging hidden fees and using deceptive marketing tactics during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic to increase profits at the expense of consumers and local small businesses.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today filed a lawsuit against Monsanto Company and two affiliated companies for manufacturing, promoting, and selling toxic chemicals that it knew would pollute waterways, kill wildlife, and endanger District residents.

WASHINGTON, DC—Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced a lawsuit against Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta) alleging that the company knowingly designed Instagram and its other social media platforms with features that lure in and addict children and cause harm to their mental, emotional, and physical health. At the same time, Meta has falsely assured the public that these features are safe for young users, despite its own internal research showing they’re not.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) also issued a Business Advisory to District retailers to help them comply with price transparency requirements.

WASHINGTON, DC – Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today filed a lawsuit against Curbio, Inc. (Curbio), which markets itself as a pre-sale home renovation company that allows homeowners to defer payment until their homes are sold. The lawsuit alleges Curbio engages in a scheme of deception, intimidation, and fraud that traps District residents—targeting the elderly and financially disadvantaged—into unconscionable contracts, while performing overpriced, substandard work that often takes months—or years—longer than promised.
