WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today alerted District residents about new consumer protections that increase transparency in the funeral industry during the COVID-19 emergency. The District’s new “Consumer Bill of Rights for Funeral Home Establishments” requires funeral homes to post their prices online for the first time.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced that local real estate company Evolve, LLC will be required to pay a penalty of up to $250,000 to resolve a 2018 housing discrimination lawsuit. In February 2020, a judge granted the District’s motion for summary judgment, ruling that Evolve violated District law by refusing to rent or even show apartments to potential tenants who planned to use housing vouchers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today released a report demonstrating how District construction companies hurt workers, cheat taxpayers, and undercut law-abiding competitors when they illegally misclassify workers as independent contractors. Worker misclassification is a form of payroll fraud where employers categorize workers who should be considered direct employees as independent contractors.
