WASHINGTON, DC – Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced 30 awardees who will be recognized at the 2023 Right Direction Awards this evening, an initiative celebrating the resiliency, leadership, and achievements of District youth and emerging adults.

But when your bill comes at the end of the meal, there’s a vague 20% fee added on that you didn’t expect. How do you know if the fee is going to service workers? Are restaurants allowed to charge fees without telling you? 

WASHINGTON, DC – Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that Clean Team Janitorial Service, Inc. (Clean Team) will pay more than $260,000 to janitorial workers and the District to resolve allegations that the company underpaid workers from 2020 to 2023. Under the terms of a settlement agreement with the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), Clean Team will pay $220,561 in unpaid wages and damages to 33 workers who were paid less than they were legally owed.

Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today released his Fiscal Year 2016 Budget proposal, which would leverage the office’s ability to recover funds for District residents in order to implement four initiatives that voters in all wards of the city embraced when they elected him to be the District of Columbia’s first elected Attorney General.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced that the District has filed a lawsuit against the owners of an apartment complex in the Shipley Terrace neighborhood for multiple violations of the District’s housing code and Consumer Protection Procedures Act. This is the second lawsuit that the Attorney General has brought against Sanford Capital and related businesses (Sanford) for allowing the proliferation of unsafe and unsanitary conditions at properties it owns in Ward 8.

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that the District has joined two friend-of-the-court briefs in support of transgender rights in federal cases from North Carolina and Texas. The briefs contend that transgender individuals should be permitted to use restrooms and other facilities that are consistent with their gender identity.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced a settlement with American Medical Collection Agency (“AMCA”) resolving a multistate investigation into a 2019 data breach that exposed the personal information of up to 21 million individuals, including 12,530 District residents.
