Racine today released the below statement on Mayor Bowser’s Executive Order banning the expenditure of District funds on official travel to Indiana over a new law that could allow discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender (LGBT) Indiana residents:
Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today said that his office was reviewing a decision by D.C. Superior Court Judge Neal Kravitz awarding $9.15 million dollars to a plaintiff, Kirk Odom, who was wrongfully imprisoned for more than 22 years. The judgment was entered against the District government under the Unjust Imprisonment Act, a law permitting wrongfully-convicted and imprisoned plaintiffs to collect damages from the District without having to prove fault – even when the plaintiff was tried by federal prosecutors.
Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that he has established and hosted the initial quarterly meeting of the Attorney General’s Labor Advisory Committee. Establishing such a committee to keep the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) apprised of matters important to labor groups was a recommendation from Attorney General Racine’s Transition Team.
