Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine and Chief Financial Officer Jeffrey DeWitt have urged the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to rule on the legality of the DC Budget Autonomy Act. They thus disagreed with Mayor Muriel Bowser, who two weeks ago asked the court to dismiss the case and vacate U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan’s decision without ruling on the merits of the dispute.

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today released a statement denouncing last night’s decision by the House Appropriations Committee of Congress include language in the federal budget repealing the District’s Death with Dignity Act. The law went into effect in February, 2017 and legalizes assisted dying.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today filed a lawsuit to resolve a dispute between two dueling Boards of Directors that has paralyzed the Open Technology Fund (OTF), a District nonprofit. OTF, which supports encryption and anti-censorship tools for people living in repressive societies, is an independent nonprofit corporation organized and created under District law that receives grant funding from the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM). In a lawsuit filed today in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that he has filed suit against Howard Theatre Restoration, Inc. (HTR) for violating the District’s Nonprofit Corporations Act. HTR’s failure to properly obtain audits, the suit argues, endangers the group’s ability to fulfill its charitable purpose of supporting the historic landmark and entertainment venue in the heart of Shaw.

WASHINGTON, DC – Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb, alongside Mayor Muriel Bowser and Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, urging them to vote against the DC Crimes Act, which is before the U.S. House of Representatives today for a floor vote.

Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that the Contract Appeals Board (CAB) has granted the District of Columbia’s motion for judgment in a case over a dispute between the University of the District of Columbia and a contractor. The win means the District will save more than $200,000.
