Racine announced today that he is joining a coalition of 21 attorneys general in filing a friend-of-the-court brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court in a crucial case that may determine the fate of public-sector unions. The brief asks the Court to uphold a lower court’s decision protecting “fair share” provisions in public sector collective bargaining agreements.

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Attorney General Racine has joined with 12 other attorneys general to oppose a rollback of critical Internet neutrality protections by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). In comments submitted to the FCC yesterday, the attorneys general argue that the FCC must ensure open access to the Internet and the continued equal access to all content providers online, which can only be upheld through the principles of an open Internet, commonly referred to as “net neutrality.”

Racine is alerting consumers to a telephone scam targeting District residents where con artists impersonate Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officials demanding immediate payment or else risk arrest. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) reminds District residents that the IRS and other government entities do not call to tell you that you owe back taxes, threaten legal action, or demand payment without first sending you a notice in the mail.

Washington, DC – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced a $125 million, 48-state settlement with Cephalon and affiliated companies (“Cephalon”). The settlement ends a multistate investigation into anticompetitive conduct by Cephalon to protect the monopoly profits it earned from its landmark wakefulness drug, Provigil. That conduct delayed generic versions of Provigil from entering the market for several years.  

WASHINGTON, D. C. – Last night, Attorney General Karl A. Racine filed a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of the District and 10 other states in a California challenge to the Trump Administration’s efforts to cut off federal public safety grants to so-called “sanctuary” jurisdictions. The brief was filed in California v. Sessions (3:17-cv-04701-WHO), in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced a multistate settlement along with 41 states requiring Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary Ethicon, Inc. to pay more than $116 million for their deceptive marketing of transvaginal surgical mesh devices. A multistate investigation found the companies violated state consumer protection laws by misrepresenting the safety and effectiveness of the devices and failing to sufficiently disclose risks associated with their use.
