Attorney General Schwalb Forces NRA Foundation Reform After NRA Used Charitable Donations Without Oversight

WASHINGTON, DC – Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced a resolution in the Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) lawsuit against the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the NRA Foundation for misusing nonprofit funds and other violations of the District’s Nonprofit Corporation Act (NCA). The terms of the settlement require thorough oversight and extensive operational changes to ensure that the Foundation operates independently from the NRA and fully complies with District nonprofit laws.

Fighting Sex Trafficking Year-Round

As Human Trafficking Awareness Month comes to an end, OAG understands the importance of educating youth and our community year-round about on how to stop the most common form of this terrible crime: sex trafficking. This type of trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery that forces victims to exchange sexual acts for anything of value.

AG Racine Leads 11 State Attorneys General in Backing Decision by Visa, Mastercard, & Amex To Adopt New Credit Card Code for Gun & Ammunition Sales

WASHINGTON, D.C.– District of Columbia Attorney General Karl A. Racine today announced that he joined with Delaware and New Jersey to lead a coalition of 11 attorneys general supporting the recent decision of the world’s largest credit card companies—Visa, Mastercard, and American Express—to adopt a new merchant category code for the sale of firearms and ammunition that will support law enforcement efforts to help combat the gun violence epidemic.

AG Schwalb Sues Avid Telecom Over Illegal Robocalls

WASHINGTON, DC – Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today joined a bipartisan coalition of 49 Attorneys General in suing Michael D. Lansky, LLC, which does business under the name Avid Telecom, along with its owner Michael Lansky, and its vice president Stacey S. Reeves, for allegedly initiating and facilitating billions of illegal robocalls to millions of people in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Telemarketing Sales Rule, and other federal and state telemarketing and consumer laws.
